If someone with a clipped version could trace the outline of one and post it, I'd be willing to sacrifice one of my bulk pack Alpha III kits and experiment with chrome paint. The fin cans are all warped to some extent, but hot water or a heat gun would probably get the fins straight enough.

The fin can is posted on Shapeways by Raygun (kcespedes). He has either done the measurements, or he eyeballed it for the CAD. I bet he did the measurements.

The upside is that the pics are high enough resolution that I could just make an onscreen measurement and be considerably more accurate than the TLAR method.

Matt

I wonder if they had the same issue with the red metallic parts for the Alpha VI a few years ago….but I think that one was always intended to be a one-year-only release like the Alpha IV was.

….or he looked for some bogus dimensioned drawings and based his parts off that.

Yes, in my experience with a handful of Alpha III’s (and a handful from a bulk pack still on hand), getting a fin can with three straight fins can be a challenge. But some gentle bending and working generally gets them in decent shape.

I haved toyed with getting an Estes Phantom, for the clear nose and fin can, so I could attempt to chrome it, and make one of these.

Thanks, Bob. It looks like the Estes chrome job picks up fingerprints almost as well as today's aluminum and chrome paints do! I should have no problem recreating that part of it.

Default Citation Quasar

I've got it into my mind to clone one. Sticker Shock 23 made me a perfect body wrap replica. As for the NC & FC. I have the self-adhesive chrome sheets. The nose will be a tricky, but the FC should be easy to overlay. Any suggestions are welcome!! Back in the day my dearly departed father bought for my birthday the Citation Starter Kit with the original Quasar. It came with the red controller; the Porta-Pad was also chromed. I still have it to this day Page 5 of the 1974 Catalog.
