Default New project X-51a

I made the parts for a model of this ohhhh….maybe 10 or so years ago. I can’t remember that far back any more but I’m sure the date may be on one of my old CAD drawings but I’ll look for that later.

I really loved that model. I liked it so much I made a version for myself. I can look for those later.

Originally I just made the parts and I got to use some model airplane construction techniques and finished the parts including a complete (it just needs sanding, paint, etc.) so I completed the model with the booster parts.

Instead of a B-52 to launch it I’ll launch it vertically on an 18mm motor. Oh well!

I just finished the white and when that drys I can do the black, silver and chrome.

Maybe even decals if I can find a better picture of what the lettering and badges are but they will be tiny.

And I know where the original model parts are.

Thanks, I’m waiting for the white paint to finish out gassing so I can finish the paint.

Maybe tomorrow or better Monday.

Finally finished!

Unlike the real Waverider this will launch vertically.

Where can I get a B-52…preferably used.

Sorry for the delay but it’s done!

Really cool, Gordy! Are you having a heat wave up your way? Or maybe you have a heated paint booth?

I haven’t sprayed paint since September here in Colorado. I did spray a quick coat of primer on a tube last week, but that was about a 30 second dash outside with the sun shining (in freezing temperatures).

I made a spray booth out of a large cardboard box with a shop back.

It works great!

We are currently in what I would call a North Carolina winter here in Michigan. Temps in the forties and an occasional 50’s

I started my snow blower once, just to see if it starts.

I wanted to make some decals for my X-51a.

There are three emblems on the side near the Ram air intake. I could not make out the logos on any of the images I have found of the X-51a.

So I looked just what companies worked on the Wave Rider. They are Boeing, Pratt & Whitney and Air Force Research Laboratory.

After looking the all up…don’t you just love Google! I have them

The biggest problem is that they are only 3.2mm each.

Maybe I’ll just make three drops of paint and call it finished
