Are those Midgets originals? They have a patina of age like I'd expect the real deal to have.

Good stuff, thanks. I flew more mini-brutes back in the day, since they were cheaper, especially the motors. I still regularly fly clones of the Beta, and still have my original Mini-Bomarc, though it's pretty rough. I didn't realize the Midget shrunk, that just doesn't look right!

Yes they are, when in High School, my older brother had gotten a Midget, and I liked it so much the next year, I ordered one, not thinking about the Mini engine change. I was shocked, and originally a little disappointed when mine came in as the Mini-Brute.

Here's a list of Maxi Brute kits researched some years ago that might be a good starting point for some additional research:

1267 V-2 1974
1268 Pershing 1-A 1974
1269 Honest John 1975
1229 Saturn 1B 1975 (rebranding)
1236 Saturn V 1975 (rebranding)
1291 Maxi Alpha 1977
1302 X-Wing Fighter 1978
1320 Colossus 1979
1321 Maxi Alpha III 1979

Two kits contain the word “Maxi” in their names, but were never marketed as part of the Maxi Brute line:

1331 Maxi Icarus
1387 Maxi Streak

I just finished up a MAxi-Icarus. Its a little different than the original. Created an Arduino payload that measures temperature down the side of the body tube. That also meant creating a payload adapter for the conduit that covers the temperature sensors.

Haven't had a chance to fly it yet. Will need a really calm day to prevent weather cocking.

Wolf,

Great job on your presentation about the history of the Estes Mini-Brute product line.

I have not seen this posted anywhere but I have attached a handout that came with the June 1971, Volume 11, #2, of Estes Model Rocket News. I think this may have been a handout at trade shows.
