Default Cloning the Estes #0817 AERO-HI

I thought I’d share a few photos of a little model I’ve been working on as of late. It’s a clone of the old Estes #0817 AERO-HI.

Not having an actual kit on hand meant that I had no decals available to me, so this reality was used as an excuse to take a few liberties with the build. I don’t know the genesis of this kit, but it strikes me as a derivative of the old MMI Aerobee-Hi, and so I’ve taken a couple of cues from that model into my build. So in fairness, it’s not an orthodox clone in the strictest sense. Nevertheless, a fun little build.

Construction and finishing details are covered in the attached article.

Nice clean build. Yeah, I like the orange over the suggested red also.

Very cool clone of a rarely seen kit.
Love the vintage Testors Plastic Cement bottle.

Thanks for the kind words, all.

The bolt heads are injection molded Styrene replicas of socket head bolt heads. They come on a sheet of various sizes, produced by the plastic model company MENG. I usually get them at my LHS, but they can be found from various retail sources. Googling "Meng nuts" will conjure up a multitude of those sources.

I've never seen a Hornet in the field either. I meant to bid on the one that Matt Steele recently sold but forgot.
