Default Happy Thanksgiving 2020

Wow, this time last year who knew what we were heading into for 2020....

With an opening statement like that, it would certainly be easy to conclude there is little IF ANYTHING to be thankful for in such a dismal, downer, deadly and dastardly year such as this one. Afterall, 250,000 of our citizens (and counting) have been taken from us sooner than they should have and the pain and suffering around the world has been incredibly sorriful.

HOWEVER (isn’t there always one of those?), our forefathers who started this thing called Thanksgiving had ridden through a pretty rough patch themselves at the time. Yet, they found time to pause, reflect, and realize that YES, there were things — maybe a number of them — to be thankful for.

When the chips are down and times are tough (we’ve all been in tough times before; we all know, in one way or the other, how bad things can be sometimes), that can be when even the smallest blessings of life can take on much greater significance.

I hope each here is able to spend time with those they love and care for the most in this life and that you can do it safely. And I hope each, in their own way, can take a few minutes and run through their minds the things that they have to be thankful for this year, in spite of the many sad realities that have been brought to bear on us.

I am thankful for many things this eve, but to this audience specifically, I am thankful for the resource this site is and for each who brings their insights, histories, skills, humor and comments to this site on a daily basis.

To each, I wish you a Happy, Safe, Love-filled, and secure Thanksgiving 2020!

Earl

Earl,

Happy Thanksgiving to you! My wife and I have hosted the big family get-together for over 30 years straight, but last year we went to our oldest daughter’s family’s place, with most of the rest of the family joining in.

This year, against recommendations, we are doing it again. And to the “leaders” in our state, who have said stay home (yet the mayor of Denver flew to Mississippi to join family), we joyously tell them to “stuff it”.

Hope everyone has a terrific Thanksgiving. Be safe, and feast heavily, so you have the energy to fight the shopping crazies on Friday morning.

Shopping Friday? Nah, going flying instead.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. It will be quiet here as the three of our kids who are within reasonable driving distance are all heeding the recommendations to not meet indoors with people outside your immediate household.

Hopefully your gathering, Lee, will be fine.

It rained like holy hell last night, so no chance of flying today, but tomorrow is supposed to be sunny and 57 and Saturday is sunny and 49. Add that to the 55 we're supposed to see today and I have hope for a Saturday afternoon launch. Might be a little sloppy, but that's what muck boots are for. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.

"The Vixen" and I wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!

We're celebrating ours by ourselves. The ham is in the oven (I got talked out of doing a rack of lamb. We'll do a loose bird for Christmas.)

"The Vixen" and I are thankful that we're not sick, that I still have a full time job, that the house is paid for and we have almost zero debt, that we have friends and relations that love us and that we love very much, and............................

......despite the problems we still live in the greatest county in the world.

God Bless America! Amen.

VR, Jeffrey and Mary ("the Vixen") Smith
