Earl-
Yes I did get the brochure.
It was interesting.
I would like to see some catalogs from the 50s to mid 70s.

Default #99...

Hi all,

I won this set on e-Bay a few weeks ago. Very nice btw.
The seller tossed in an extra # 1 handle and a dispenser pack of #16 blades.

Both #1's have the double cut head; looks cruciform head on so to speak.

The #5 handle is marked xacto on the heel, my OLD one is branded on the shank
and is dark red.

Plan to doll it up with an old balsa stripper, precision chuck set, and the #60-C file set.

You'll love this - The cordless drill works! It appears to have a Mabuchi 280 motor; needs
a bit of Labelle #107 on the bushings and a dab of #106 on the gears.

Bob
p.s. it sold for $281.58
p.p.s. the $60 price from the set's release in '69 - '70 equals ~ $398 today.

So you are the one that bought it.
It went for WAYYYY more than I was willing to pay.
Nice set though.

It was roughly $40 more than your #89...

All unused to boot; have to to remove the soldering iron's tip in order to release it from prison

Did you say $398 ?
I only paid $239 +shipping for the #89 and it came with about 50% more tools/blades than a stock #89. Most of the tools were either NOS or nearly that.
I thought your set went for around $285, but you mention $398.
$285 is a great deal for a pristine NOS #99.

I think what he was saying is that the price of it in 1969 was $60 which would equate to $398 today.

So today I'm poking around in the garage looking for something else and I unexpectedly found something buried deep in the back of the bottom drawer of my toolbox wrapped in a cloth that got shoved to the back ... my 6" needle point dividers for my Dietzgen 1288-3 drawing set that I referenced in post #73. I knew I had it somewhere so the tools in my set are now reunited and complete.

I just need to find my pencil. I found that in the instructions this Dietzgen 1288-3 drawing set was sold without a pencil and I am still looking for the lead holder pencil that my parents purchased for me to use for my classes in high school ...

Isn’t that the way it always is...one finds something like that when looking for *something else*! But, it IS always good to find it!

Make sure to get some quality Berol Turquoise 9H leads for that holder.
Almost as hard as a steel compass point makes for very precise lines.

I used to sneak a piece of 9H lead in others lead holders in Drafting class as a Prank.
Nobody figured out who was doing it either. Colored lead or Vellum lead also made great pranks.

The only time I got caught was by my girlfriend during our Senior year of high school. I snuck a blue lead into her holder. We went to different High Schools and I was not there to see her reaction in class. Suffice it to say she took a "dim view" to this activity as it ruined an almost complete drawing. My HS buddies thought it was hilarious.
