Default New Design - Tube Torpedo

Playing around with RockSim tonight I came up with the below design. However, it won t launch. Not sure why, I haven't tried a dual stage rocket in RockSim so I'm sure I'm missing something simple.

Take a look and let me know what I'm doing wrong please.

Thanks!

Feyd, I don't know what caused the weight to jump on your version, but it was over 7 oz for a single-stage configuration. A C6-anything was just not going to lift that mass off the pad.

I re-built the design from scratch, which cleared out whatever the issue was. The mass in single-stage mode is now more in-line with where it should be. The flight simulation with a C6-3 gets up to 450', with a Dv average of 24 FPS. You will need a 48" x 3/16" launch rod.

The single-stage version is attached to this post, and I'm looking at adjusting some other components to achieve a two-stage configuration.

I used the "pods" feature to simplify some things.

Here's a Mk IIb version, using a 24mm mount and 6 24mm tube fins. A little better performance using C11-3 and D12-5 engines.

Now here's the two-stage version that you were trying to achieve. It uses 24mm engine tubes to get the needed power for lift-off, and it incorporates a form of gap-staging that I'm not saying will absolutely work, but just that it should work.

Length: 35.16"
Diameter: 1.637" (BT-60)
Fin Span: 2.93" (Tube fins, BT-50)
Weight: 3.04 oz (Full stack)

C11-0/C11-5.......674'......Dv 25 FPS
C11-0/D12-5.......944'......Dv 32 FPS
D12-0/D12-5......1159'......Dv 34 FPS (Reef the shrouds)

Thanks, I'll take a look at it tonight. I was just fooling around, but now I might actually try to build this. It looks pretty cool. I just have to make sure I have the correct materials on hand.
