Default For Packaging Collectors

The Estes PSII Der Big Red Max (DBRM) kit (9721) has been available for several years now.

It has been one of the most modified kits in recent years (The Big Daddy kit is another).

I am guilty of buying several DBRM kits for current and future projects.

This past week I received another DBRM kits via USPS (Thanks for beating the heck out of the package guys!)

I inspected the kit contents and everything is fine but the box was pretty beat up.
As I looked at the box something didn't seem right. I compared the box with a previous DBRM kit box and discovered this recent DBRM purchase had a new box layout.

The printing date on my 'old' box was 09/30/20. The 'new' box was 03/31/22.

Attached are side-by-side pictures of the two boxes as I rotate each of them ninety degrees. Old box on the left, new box on the right.

Hmmmmm....redone in the new style of lettering we first saw on some Hobby Lobby exclusives. Well, I guess they mean to keep this one around a bit if they've updated the packaging like that and made at least one more batch.

In motorcycle world, when the new year models come out without any mechanical changes, we say the 2022 model is out with BNG! (Bold New Graphics)
