Default Decal Storage

I've got some decals from Excelsior as well as remnants of Estes & Centuri sheets.

Whats the best way to store them?

I was planning on using those page protector pockets that I can put into binders, but should the binders be stored upright or flat?

Any other concerns that I should be aware of?

Thanks.

Cheers,
Jon

Acid free sheet protector in a four inch binder. I store mine flat simply to keep smaller pieces from dropping out of the pockets. You will need to find extended tab sheets since mine are wide enough for 8.5" drilled paper, but too narrow when the extra .65" width of the sheet protector is added.

You could also use comic book or magazine bags since they are also acid free. And they have a tape-over flap to close the bag and keep anything from falling out. Of course, you can't store them in a binder, but they would keep the decals safe.

The sleeves I ship my decals in are comic book sleeves so leave them in the bags they come in.

I store decals in file folder in a file drawer so they are standing up.

Although I have some original decals and some old ALPs decals that JimZ made me that are pretty old. I keep those in a large binder.

I just leave them in their plastic envelopes in cardboard folders in the Priority Mail envelopes that they were shipped in. I have the envelopes standing up in a box. I have some decals that Phred printed for me several years ago that are still every bit as fresh as the day that they arrived.

Or should I say, as phresh as the day they arrived.

It never occurred to me that decals might have special storage requirements. I figured that whatever they were shipped in was good enough to keep them in. I just leave them in their packages until I use them. I list the contents on the envelope to make it easier to find the right set. Each envelope contains the decals from that particular order, so there are usually several (often unrelated) decal sets in each one. I do take them out of the envelope (but leave them in the plastic) every once in awhile just to admire them.

(Oh, yeah, and to remind myself of which ones I have. )

OH, yes, one more thing.

Don't get them wet.

I would suggest storing them "standing up" as gordon suggested... stacking them tends to make stuff stick together over time, and that can be bad...

Later! OL JR
