Exclamation [YARID] Ramjet missile with ringtail

To quote MarkB.,

"Comrades,"

I apparently printed out the attached photo (as my printer ink cartridge was dying) several years ago, and stashed it in my folder of rocket designs. I came across it the other day, and I tried to find the original photo via internet search.

"There is no joy in Mudville..."

YORF Hivemind, can you help with this YARID* ("Yet Another Rocket ID")? Thanks in advance.

_____
*from rec.arts.sf.written YASID* ("Yet Another Story ID")?

Chris Timm for the win.

Don't recall ever seeing this vehicle. Thank you both.

This is *way* cool, and especially mounted on a Corsair! What an interesting build.

The irony? I subconsciously associated your name with the photo I posted.

Thanks for all the photos, and for coming to the rescue!

Cheers and blessings,

It looks like I'll have to add some additional fins on the "bottom" to offset the two large ones on top.

Kind of like M. Grant Boyd's Centuri Fireflash, which was adapted from the original Fairey Fireflash British missile.

Thumbs up vought.org

No dimensional data (so my attempt will be semi-scale), but some excellent background information:

Thanks again, Chris!

Thanks again, Chris!

.

The bottom photo on this page shows what looks like a triangle-shaped fin on the
bottom of the missile near the ring, and maybe one near the nose. Also, two horizontal
fins near the nose which show in one of the test stand pictures. Several variations
to play with.

I'll be interested to see what you come up with!

The diameter appears to be 16" with a 36" tail ring.
Based on the pic with the wooden cradle being constructed with standard 2x4's (1.5"x3.5") and 3/4" cross members.
