Default Semroc Omega scattering ashes

Been a long time since my last post, but yesterday, to mark the first anniversary of my dad's passing, we used my Semroc Omega to launch some of his ashes (half a film canister worth) over the heath in our home town. I have fitted a modified key fob camera to the payload bay, with the camera filming down.

Used D12-0 for the booster stage, and D12-5 for the main rocket. It was really too windy for a launch, but as we had a huge area to play with, I gave it a go.

Launch was successful, the recovery 'chute (and my Dad's ashes) were successfully deployed, and the rocket was recovered. There are two frames on the on-board video where you can clearly see his ashes being ejected. There was some damage to the rocket; the lower launch lug and stand-off were knocked off by the nose cone during parachute deployment.

I think he would have got a real kick out of knowing some of his ashes went for a rocket ride!

Great pictures! The ash deployment is very dramatic.

I lofted a scoop of my dog's ashes over the Oregon high desert a few months after cancer took her. I put the ashes in a coffee filter, and put a wad of her fur (lots of shedding) over that so the parachute and shock cord wouldn't get dog ash on them. LOC Calibur on an H.
