That link goes to a #2 clone, but it put me on the right track. Unfortunately what is needed is out of stock: https://widgetsupply.com/collection...-k18-safety-cap

The K1 cap will not fit an X-acto Gripster, but it will fit a regular #1 handle (I just tried it).

Also, Widget Supply looks like another place to browse and maybe spend too much money....

Here is a very clean looking vintage Xacto #82 knife set in a clean wooden box. My guess is this is probably from the early to mid-1960s. Seller asking $20, which is very reasonable for a set this clean.

Not my listing nor do I know the seller.

Oh, that's a great deal! Really clean looking set.

That said, here is another that you might be interested in. I don't need it (actually, I have this same set in the same era outer box myself in almost mint condition), but the seller made me an offer of $24, listed at $29. It is for a pretty clean looking #86 wooden chest set. Missing the #1 and #5 knife handles, but both easily replaceable. This set even includes the old outer cardboard box, thought it appears to be in somewhat rough condition. I'd date this set from the late 50s to maybe mid-60s.

That one is very nice as it is the early set including the punches and 4 routers. The later sets deleted 2 routers and both punches.

If you spend another less than $10, you can add appropriate vintage #5 and #1 handles to complete the set.
If it were mine, I'd skip the #5 and add a #6 instead.
Great price.

Glad you got that one, too! Wow, you've added three very nice sets to your collection in just a little over a week for less than $100! That's pretty good!

Xacto collecting is almost as much fun as rocket collecting.
