August 30, 2020 Launch
It's been too hot and dry to fly anything here lately, but three days of rain brought a reprieve. As an added bonus the corn was harvested last week, so my field was in prime shape for a launch.
Here's the line up for today: Super Big Bertha Tintin Moon Rocket Renegade Semroc Start Rescue Bertha Semroc RDC Moon Glo Mercury Redstone Goblin AeroDart 4FNC Retro LOC Viper Maxi Alpha Der Drei Maxxx |

My field is 20 miles away and when we got there it was windier than at home. If I was only flying small stuff I would typically delete the chutes and let them flutter in. Since I wanted to fly some big models, I sent up the Semroc Start on a B6-4 with a 12" chute to check the drift.
The wind seemed to be all or nothing, so I ended up launching between gusts all afternoon. Nice flight from the Start model. I gave it 15 degrees of rod angle and sent it way out. It returned and landed softly ten feet from the pad. |

Next to go was my Rescue Bertha. Once on a B6-4 and again on a C6-5. Same pad set up but it landed a little further out. Both good flights with gentle recovery.

Here's my vintage Goblin. It's nearly as old as me. Built in 1972, I think. A family hand-me-down.
I really like the 10 foot streamer recovery. Great flight on a C6-5. |

The Super Big Bertha flew great on an E12-4. It landed just inside the edge of the freshly cut cornfield and snapped a fin on one of the stalk stubs. Six more feet to the right and it would have been unharmed.

Another Moldy Oldie was my original Renegade, built in 1979. It was my third model after my Challenger-1 and Big Bertha. It had a great flight on a D12-3 and perfect chute descent rate into the hayfield. Hard to believe it's now over 40 years old. It's a great flyer and still sports it's original airframe decal, nose, and about 40% of it's original paint.

I brought along several packs of the C5-3's and was anxious to try one out in the Redstone. Not as much altitude as I expected, but still a nice straight flight.

My Semroc RDC Moon Glo took it's maiden flight on an A8-3. Nice, straight boost. Recovery via streamer. It's covered with Glow-in-the-dark minty green paint.

Thanks Jeffy! Next off the pad was my Tintin Moon Rocket with new, white checker livery.
It flies great but it's a sled. I had to put over 2 ounces of lead in the nose. I put it up on a C6-5 for a great flight. The wind caught it on the way down so I had a good walk to retrieve it. |
