Default Project Mercury Abort Capsule 1/12 Scale

Here's a project I've been working on for a while.

It uses the Atomic City 1/12 scale Mercury capsule, and a home made tower and home made cluster motor utilizing 24mm motors.

The design is rear eject, the motors push the laundry out the bottom of the capsule.

I can post up more photo's if this project is of interest here.

Interesting project. What does that capsule base diameter run...that about 6 inches or so? What will you be constructing the tower from?

Thanks Earl. Yes, base is 6-3/16"

I'm using (3) 3/16" poplar dowels. There's a BT-50H tube, with a C-50 coupler, and (2) stiffener rings made from 1/8" basswood plywood.

Here are some photo's of the launch.

Rocket flew stable while under thrust, went AoA during coasting phase, chute deployed just before ground hit.

Rocket recovered undamaged.

Out of curiosity did you use a generic paint pattern for the capsule and escape tower or is the painting based on an actual "flight" capsule?

Default Cluster Start

What kind of starters did you use?

Did the tumble happen because the engines had the delay start?

Doing a version of the Beach Abort Boiler plate. Found a Video, not real good, but I was able to get some screen shots for reference. Drew the project last Saturday, now need to add engine/recovery system before printing.
