Centuri Orion decal colors?
There are two different decal scans on the JimZ site for the Centuri Orion.
http://www.spacemodeling.org/jimz/kc-8.htm One scan shows black and red decals (2-color). The second scan shows black, blue, and red decals (3-color). The description in the 1973 Centuri catalog mentions 4-color decals. The Semroc kit has 3-color decals. No sources, including past YORF discussions, explain these differences. Looking at "color data" in the 1973 catalog I just see black and red (2-color) decals and chrome bands on the booster. I suppose the chrome trim is a separate color? Maybe some of the "black" decals are actually dark blue? Anyone know what colors (besides white) the original Centuri Orion had?

From an original release 1970 kit. Scan has not been cleaned in any way. I have a scan from a boxed kit also, but it is the same as this one. I guess the four colors are black, red, blue, and white, the 'hatch' decal being the white.
Hope this helps. Earl

Thanks, Earl. Same pattern as one of the scans on JimZ, but the JimZ looks black. Your scan clearly has blue in it... and white (slaps forehead).
I didn't think I needed white decals on a white rocket, but OK! I can't find where that white "hatch" decal goes so maybe I won't even use it.

Yeah, the white bites again! Oh, and it's "Earl", but I think you know that.... I have had "Ed" ascribed to me before, but those unfortunate souls are, um, ... "no longer with us" to repeat THAT mistake! Good luck on the clone, which I guess is what you are doing. Earl

That white decal is also used on the Enerjet Athena.

I've seen that. But I've not seen any photos or drawings from Centuri showing where (on an Orion) this decal is placed. Both views of the Orion in the 1973 catalog (actually, any catalog image) are of the same side. Anyone know of "color and markings" data that would meet the requirements of the NAR Classic Model event? Not talking about photos of people's built originals and clones.

I believe it was on the Centuri Laser-X as well. I can't recall off the top of my head

Yep. Actually, there is yet a second hatch decal on the Laser-X. Similar, but more narrow. Earl

The Kit I got at NARAM 13 had red, black, white, and blue decals, but the blue was dark and kinda neutral, not the bright blue in the later releases. So at quick glance you probably didn't notice a blue shade anyway. I didn't use the decals, and have kept them all this time, but they are in storage so I can't take a picture of them for you.

The boxed version of the Orion shows the location of the hatch decal on the box-art.
