One set contains the #1, #2, #6, and Woodcarving Handles.
That's the Deluxe Knife Set. This #89 set appears to have the standard complement of #1, #2, and #5 handles. Best way to get all the knives is to add them individually to a big set like this one. Adding a #6, #3 (pen Knife), #4 (Stencil Knife), #8R (Orange plastic Utility knife that uses #8R blades), #9RX push button retractable knife, and a Woodcarving handle would get you most of the way there. You could add an X-Calibre knife, a standard #8, and a X-Acto Jr. handle for completion. Obscure handles such as #6L and #5L could be added that are specific for the wide-slot Leather tools and the big #33 blade, but good luck finding them. One handle X-Acto catalogued for years is the 7KP but I have NEVER seen an actual one. The "KP" stands for knife-pencil. It had a blade at one end and a mechanical pencil at the other. Nobody here seems to have ever seen one either. May have to ask Sue about these. Also remember there are 3 different styles of the "Big Honker" handle #6 and two styles of the small-handle #6. One of the Big Honker #6 handles has the same pressed in ferrule of the newer #6 smaller handles. The only difference in the two smaller #6 handles I can see is the later one has a painted "X-ACTO" logo on one of the hex flats, which makes it China production instead of USA. ANY version of the #6 handle is better then the #5 handle. I use #5's just for Razor Saw blade holders.

Did somebody say ………. “Big Honker”? I have two of the three #6 handles I never did find the third version. Sometimes I load my #6 up with the double edged #23 and stab it into a balsa block because it makes me feel so manly with it in my hand …..

I have a 100pak of those double-edged #23X blades.
Didn't really need them, but for $9.95 +$3 shipping, I couldn't resist. Just wish I could grab Z-series #2, old wide #24, or #25 blades at that price.

Sounds like someone got a great deal.
Spoke to Sue about that #7kp handle. She has NEVER seen an actual one either through all her collecting; just on package backs like I have. Sounds like it may have been announced and catalogued just like the Estes Cylon Raider and Black Hole Cygnus Probe Ship kits.

...and another #89 set listed. Not sure it is complete. They are asking $55, but more for shipping on this one at $20.

This particular Xacto hammer has popped up a few times that I have seen on eBay the past year or so. I do not need it, but the interesting thing is I cannot find it in any of the Xacto catalogs I have found (all of which are scanned and posted here on YORF). I looked at all the catalog listings including the knife sets and I just don’t see it anywhere.
Link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/3343630947...353.m1438.l2649 Has anyone seen this in any other Xacto publication or knife set? Wondering if this hammer predates the hammer that IS in the catalogs we have? I dunno...... Earl

Have never seen that hammer.
That #89 set looked mostly complete. It appeared to be missing the #2 handle. It was one of the last versions produced as it had the plastic-geared hand drill. Not that anyone would use it with the low priced power drills and dremel tools available.

I sent Sue an email last night asking her about the hammer. Here is her response:
========================== "The only two catalogs I have seen them in is the 1978 (page 19) and 1980 (page 13). It’s shown near the anvil. It’s NOT shown in the 1971 or the 1981 catalog so it appears it came out in the late 70s, and was gone by the 1981 catalog. I have one or two of them. I had one more and sold it a few months ago. I have only ever seen maybe 5 or 6 of them come up for sale in the 5 years I’ve been doing this….and I purchased 3 of those. Both of these current ones are asking $50, which is the much higher than I’ve seen before. Even the New in Package one I bought, wasn’t that much. I have seen both a darn brown wood handle with a thinner neck, and the blonde wood, with the thicker neck. One kit I bought came with just the head, so I bought a wooden dowel and hand carved the neck to fit in the head." ========================== We have the 1977 catalog and the 1981 catalog, so we just missed having a catalog that would contain this hammer. It is a much newer item and obviously NOT before the Xacto hammer we are all most familiar with. Earl
