Default X-acto can be sharpened

Frugal or cheap, I can't help but NOT throw something away. A few swipes on 400 grit laminated on a paint stirrer and I am good for about a blade every couple of months with weekly moderate use. Think of your old time barber. Works ok on sponge sanding pads as well.

Borne out of necessity, but helps in having to worry about safely discarding fewer blades.

I'm going to try that. Do you swipe edge forward or edge reverse?

One of the side (few) benefits of having pnuemonia last Christmas, was having a home health care worker visit and recieving a bunch of gear for home infusion of anti-biotics. One piece of gear was a an official sharps collector container for used needles (which I didn't need as Ihad the semi-permanent IV line installed in my arm). All used blades now get tossed into the container which should be filled sometime in 2030.

Default Blade Sharp

Blade edge trails when drawn across grit. 400 grit more than enough 320 OK - two or three strokes a side. Be sure your sandpaper is smoothly glued/laminated to the surface of the stirrer. One bump will defeat desired results. Can be "strapped" to remove burrs as well. Seriously, blade is sharper than a scalpel.

I have made a number of sanding devices from tongue depressers and wooden paint stirrers this way. Just Like giant emery boards. A few I added thin craft foam (1/16 or 3/32?) between the paper and stick. Excellent for shaping edges, cone tips, just about all and cheap and resurfacable.
