Thanks Paul. I find this very interesting on several levels. If that's a for real listing (I assume it is) it makes me wonder why they wouldn't put it out to the hobby stores first, before going to Ebay. The price is the same list as in 2000? Really? And the kit number is 2157. I realize it's personal preference (mainly on constructing it) but that's disappointing to me. With 7 of the various earlier versions still in plastic we'll probably pass on this release. This would seemingly knock the bottom out of the 2157 kit auction prices of late. Several have gone for $145 or so on Ebay recently, including shipping. Why pay more than $89.99 if it will be available in August? Nice box though. Randy www.vernarockets.com |

What are you talking about Randy? They DID put it out to the stores first which is how I have the info for you here. The dude on Ebay is obviously a retailer. My store could just as easily put out a "pre-order" auction which is basically selling something you don't have...

I believe Mike was working on this before leaving Estes.

In the photograph the capsule appears to be "molded" in much the same manner that the Sirius Rocketry solution is molded in one piece. Has Estes dispensed with a injection molded LES tower in favor of a one piece assembly?

Retail at $99.99 (which most dedicated hobby shops price close to) is TWICE that of wholesale of $49.99 ???
That is what is WRONG with pricing by virtually ALL hobby companies other than Semroc. Even at that price, it seems reasonable and I will probably buy at least 2. It just infuriates me that I am paying TWICE what GP sells them for wholesale. I can just see the same structure for a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu or Ford Fusion that GM or Ford sells to the dealership for $20K and the dealership tries to get customers to pay $40K. Would NEVER happen. Price structures like this are exactly why I would just as soon see more direct from manufacturer sales.

But, that's how people were paying for a new home a few years ago. Gotta love corporate America! Perhaps that extra $50 bucks is to pay for the new molds that replaced the ones that were destroyed. No one should be destroying molds... sell them! they are easy to repair with some welding and a die grinder. . Last edited by InFlight : 05-12-2010 at 11:48 AM. |
