My LIA-77 from the ‘70s. I stained it to protect the wood (since I had the stain). Bought a LIA-50 along with motors and a parts assortment in 1967 to get started. The -50 was stolen along with other Rocketry stuffi in the ‘90s.

It appears that yours has the solid wood legs as well. I have seen a couple LIA-77's with what looks like 3ply plywood. Whether solid wood, or plywood the thickness seems to still be 1/2" nominal . What does yours measure?
It is cool you still have it around to use. |

The legs on my LIA-77 are solid and 0.50" thick. The Masonite triangular platform is 0.25" thick. I have lost track of the blast deflector and I do not recall if it had the leads like in the catalog illustrations.
I had used the LIA-50 launcher most of the time, but otherwise used club style launchers. I do have a Centuri Power Tower launcher in the bag, basically their version of the Porta-Pad. Chas

My order arrived in great condition today. Only issue I had was the triangular wood block under the launch pad came loose when I tried to push the 1/8" launch rod in place. No problem, I can fix it easily. Putting it together brought back memories when I had the Centuri launch pad in the early 1970's to the early 1980's. I remember launching my 1/100 scale Saturn - V (and 1-B) from it.
Pics below is that of my Atlas - V New Horizons sitting on the pad (but I would be flying the heavier models that uses 3/16" and 1/4" size rods from a different launch system. Thank you very much David for taking the time and opportunity for us to once again relive the glory days of model rocketry!

Yes David, thanks for making these pads available, very cool.
I decided to stain the legs with a redwood color: |

Redwood stained pad looks great! Good choice of a model, too.

More Launch Pads are ready.
If anyone is still looking for a Centuri style launch pad, please let me know what your address and zip code is so a shipping cost can be found.
The price is still 25.00 plus shipping via USPS. No launch rod is included, and the legs on this batch are made from Yellow Poplar instead of Aspen. Thank you, David |

I am in the process of making one of these launch pads for myself. I was wondering what do you use to make the blast deflector? I might get one of those ceramic parabolic deflectors, or make one from a can. The original metal plate looks really cool, just not sure where you get the metal plate and what thickness you would use.
