Uh oh. I've already been quoted so I better fess up...

I edited the original post to reflect my failing memory/eyesight. The body tube was a regular white one. The brown one was in the CC Express.

it takes awhile for new product to get through the Hobby Lobby system.

checked Wallyworld last night ... NO motors at all

all sold out .

did pick up the rtf Athena for $ 3.50 .

only other birds they had was the rtf EX200 ( something like that )

~ AL

( sad no 1.00 packs )

ps: re: the Athena - I have a skywriter fin can laying on the bench ( literally, lol ) , and would liek to backdate this to the 1990 version .

Has anyone pulled one of these apart ? is the glue hot glue ? ( ie: heat it and pull ? ) . just wondering what adhesives were used and best way to disassemble the bird without damage.

$3.50?? They're clearancing these already where you are? I have acquired four at $7 and thought that was a good deal. I figure they'd be good to give to interested kids after visiting a club launch as they are good flyers (I am flying the first one I bought).

I haven't taken one apart but I did take apart a badly damaged RTF Rascal. The launch lug/shock cord attach is hot glue, but the fin can is something else - it may even be good ol' white glue on the RA-2050 at the top of the motor mount. I wound up ripping the tube apart getting the fin can off.

I was at the "good" WalMart superstore yesterday also. I found three full display boxes of assorted motors but they were priced normally ($5.97). Undeterred by the normal pricing, I picked up two packs in anticipation of the next launch on the 13th.

They also had a number of the small kits but I recognized only the mini-Inteceptor. Again regular prices.

I was told at a regular WalMart that the superstores would be carrying Estes products year round but the normal WalMarts would be seasonally adjusting their stocks.

Yep, 3.50 .

3 bucks for the other BT20 sized one .

but they only had maybe 6-8 total, all other rockets = gone

will have to play with the bird, the whole purpose was to have the tube with vintage matching decor, so hate to smash the tube getting her apart - maybe trash the mmt ?

will keep posted.

Have you ever built an Alpha III or a SkyWriter? If so, you already know how the Athena, HiJinks, Rascal, etc. RTFs go together - the same way as those kits - just someone in China does it, not you.

Good luck!

I have an original athena and it's still going, the chrome cone is pretty rough now, but it's a tough little bugger.
