Default Big Daddy paint mishap...

I built another Big Daddy because I lost my first one when it missiled a few years ago and it is just a fun rocket. Well I layed down three coats of red and in a moment of stupidity and impatience decided to fade in the gray now instead of waiting for the red to dry fully. Rusto 2x over not fully dry Valspar equals crazy crackled paint. I kept spraying the gray to about the fins so I could watch the crackle effect some more cuz screw you paint, I have to sand it all down and start over anyway.

Then I had an idea...so I sprayed the nose cone the same way, same crackled result. Let it dry for a day and took to sanding both parts down smooth with no intention of repainting it. I decided to make it look weathered and old. I sanded enough to be smooth and kept going to bring out more red and even to the primer in spots. Looking cool...applied the decals and after they were dry I used steel wool to age them to match the look of the paint.

I am pretty happy with the result. Finally a rocket I don't have to worry about the finish, any flight damage will just add to the effect. Yet still I am debating, a coat of future shine would normally go on next, or maybe spraying matte clear on it will lend to the effect better. Or do I just leave it as is? I think I am just stalling, I have a Dr. Zooch Mercury Redstone kit that I keep skipping over.

A Rustoleum Camouflage colors paint scheme is my go to for pooched paint jobs / finish errors I don't want to take the time to fix right. Covers up just about anything.
