Default Little Lander

Here's one I built in the '90s and just recently entered in Rocksim. The fin-tip "landing legs" are small bamboo skewers trimmed to length. A nice small field flyer for 1/4A3-3T and 1/2A3-4T with lightweight "nose-blow" recovery.

I really prefer to use bamboo. It seems to hold up a lot better than using dowells, and cheaper too.

Yeah, I made some detail parts on my Saturn V and Saturn I-F build (that I need to get back to work on at some point ) out of bamboo skewers... MAN that stuff is HARD!!! I found the best method for shaping it (say into LH2 line fairings or stage separation retro-rockets) is to carve it to the rough shape FIRST and then sand it down to the final shape. The stuff is so hard it's pretty rough on hobby blades, but sanding that stuff down to size/shape takes FOREVER... once the part is finished, through, it's practically bulletproof, and sanding it basically removes ALL the grain and fiber/striations from the outside...

Later! OL JR
