MGM-52 Lance 1:35 scale PMC kit! (links)
Hello All,
Dragon has two different variants (with different support vehicles) of a 1:35 scale MGM-52 Lance short-range ballistic missile plastic model kit (see: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fr...issile&_sacat=0 ). Also: The 1:35 scale Lance (see: https://www.google.com/search?sxsrf...&sclient=psy-ab ) is large enough to be converted into a PMC (Plastic Model Conversion) scale model rocket kit, and: Peter Alway's book "14 U.S. Army Missiles of the Cold War" (see: https://www.google.com/search?sxsrf...HWU5CcsQ4dUDCAw ) contains a wealth of scale data on the Lance, including its test rounds (with roll patterns) and its Army-green operational rounds, plus its "small fins-set" and "large fins-set" variants. (The missile could carry either a conventional warhead or a nuclear warhead; I *think* [although I welcome any correction if I'm wrong] the nuclear warhead was heavier, and that these Lances used the smaller fins.) As well: If fired from the included 1:35 scale launching vehicle (suitably modified to accept a 1/8" launch rod and jet deflector), such PMC Lance scale model rockets might qualify--although one would need to consult the NAR "Pink Book" to be sure--as NAR Super Scale (scale vehicle *and* scale launcher) models. Being larger in diameter than BT-5 tubing (incidentally, Estes' BT-5 and BT-20 size, 4:1 tangent ogive plastic nose cones could be used to build Lance models--or Lance kits--of those sizes [hint, hint, Estes...?]), the 1:35 scale Lance PMC should fly well on 13 mm mini motors. But if not, for any reason, one or more of the Quest 6 mm diameter MicroMaxx motors could be used instead.
