Come on GH, think big! Flash pan ignition is where it's at! It works, it looks cool, you can ignite pretty much as many clustered motors as you want, and your rockets come back looking like a recovered Falcon 9 booster!

Yeah, flash-pan ignites clusters really well, but I prefer to recover my rockets in a much LESS TORCHED condition.

But if it's someone else's, the more flash the better, right?

I have a bunch of B14s with 1968 dates (as well as a bunch of other motors) and they work awesome! Still a great motor after 50 years! |

Apogee sells some that require no explosives permit. https://www.apogeerockets.com/Rocke...ipboard-80-pack There are also some on eBay. Just putting the info out there. Not sure about regulation on them, but they are cheap — often around 15 cents each, and free shipping. Look for “ematch” or “fireworks igniter”.

I seem to have landed in an alternate timeline where GH is against flashpan and the others are for it. I want to go home!
. . . and someone has B14's . . . |

I still have many B14s... I just loathe using up motors that cant be replaced

Gotta jump in here... I was the guy who moderated the Manufacturer's Forum this year, and was one side of the conversation with John Langford concerning the recent use of B14 motors at the Internats. (We used vintage B14-0 motors as the booster engine in our Bumper WAC models for Scale Altitude in 2014.) I do not recall John stating that the B14s were coming back, only that they were 1) really cool, and 2) would be a nice addition to a future Estes engine lineup. I did not interpret any of that as a message that the motors WERE coming back. Sorry to mess up everyone's BP buzz, James |
