Estes Saturn V Skylab painting question.
Besides the Boyce Pershing 1A I'm also finishing up my 1/100 scale Estes SV Skylab model.
The question is: The kit's box and also some actual SV Skylab photos seem to show the fins in white and also black and possibly silver. I can't seem to find a definitive photo or drawing. ROTW doesn't indicate a difference in the fins from the other SV rounds. I need a little help, please. Thanks!

I noticed that in the Estes instructions.
I do not know of any Saturn V that flew with white fins. I believe the Estes instructions are vague in this area and, more than likely, just downright wrong in not specifically pointing them out to be silver like the engine bells and the lower parts of the fin fairings. Earl

I found this picture. It looks like the fins are painted like the others. Hope it helps.

Here’s a photo that is about the best I can find.
Look at the left hand fin from the perspective of this photo. It is fin ‘C’. If you zoom in on it, you can readily see that it is not white certainly, and probably not black, either. It looks the most like the lower silver portion of the fin fairings. On the opposite side of the booster fin ‘A’ can be seen also, but not as plainly. It also is definitely not white. Hope this helps. Earl

I agree. They’re definitely ALL silver. I’m convinced the white ones on the kit’s box are incorrect and the ones that look black in photos are due to light and shadow.
Thanks guys!

Cox didn't build it, NASA contractors did.

Has anyone think of contacting NASA about close up photos of the SV Skylab booster stage?
