Since Halloween is only a week away, I just had to include the Goblin on today's roster.
This model is always fun to fly with it's ten foot streamer. Power was a C6. I had to use an Estes adapter to fit it to the 24mm mount. One note of interest: the early seventies engine hook was too short to accommodate the adapter. I had to lengthen the slot in the plastic to get the hook to engage. Otherwise a great flight. This model still sports it's original paint and decals. They still look good after 40 years. |

Great flight report.
Any rocket that flies on a C6-3 WILL fly better on a C5-3.

Solar Sailer

Nice report of this flight! The 'new' C5s have less TI than the originals, so if you used one of these that would explain why your unmistakably original 1297 Solar Sailer flew so well on it. If you'd used an old one, with nearly 10 full N-secs, it mightve deployed going upwards a bit. Ive got a BT55 upscale of this waiting for flight (NAR club seems defunct as of now) while also a BT60 version of Solar Sailer II. Also fixing to make a BT70 version of the 1297, this would be great on Fs and such as it'll be made light. BTW, do you still use the original Solar Sail chrome chute in this? I had heck in mine, and crashed an Andromeda back in '84 when I used it in there |

Thanks. Totally agree that the C5-3 is a better engine. |

That's my favorite photo from the launch. Reminds me of an old Kodachrome catalog shot. |

Thanks. Yes, that was a modern C5. My SS does use a mylar chute, just not the original. I really like mylar chutes but they seem to have a short service life. I'm lucky if I get a dozen flights before they shred. I heard that chrome party ballons can be made into chutes. I saved a few to give it a try. Please post some photos of your SS upscales if you have any. |
