Question Max altitude?

Im bored so ordered some parts.
2x bt 50's
1x bt 50 coupler
1x bt 50 nose cone
1x 18mm Single motor mount
6m of braided kevlar 100 pound rating
1x RT master chute 14"
1x bt 50 baffle kit
Nomex per wadding
3mm launch lugs

Thought i would build a small rocket and fly it on c6-5's. The rocket will be about 1"thick and around 40" long (including nose cone). Any ideas of the altitude it would reach? And would a baffle kit and wadding still let there be enough force from the ejection charge to deploy the chute?

Any info welcome.

Sam

Sam,

Not too badly, in fact!

How does 940' on that C6-5 sound? How about 400' on either a B4-4 or a B6-4?

You should not have any issues with ejection on this model, as the tube diameter is sufficiently narrow to keep the pressure up at deployment.

Specs:

Length: 40.375" (Using the BNC-50Y nose cone)
Diameter: 0.976" (BT-50)
Fin Span: 4.88"
Weight: 1.73 oz

A8-3......150'......Dv 14 FPS
B4-4......400'......Dv 1 FPS (Nice, slow deployment!)
B6-4......405'......Dv 6 FPS
C6-5......940'......Dv 15 FPS

See attached RockSim (RKT) file for fin pattern. If you don't have RockSim, go download the trial demo from Apogee Rockets and use that to view the file. Model rocket assembly is pretty straightforward; if you've built an Alpha or a Big Bertha, then you can build this easily.

The last number is the time delay between burnout and deployment. The model won't reach much higher, if as much, due to the additional weight of the delay powder. Rather, it will allow the model to take a death-dive toward the ground before tossing its cookies, which might result in a zipper. The C6-5 kicks out the laundry at or just before apogee, and that's really what you want it to do. The lower those Dv numbers, the more gentle the deployment is.
