Just eyeballing, that looks like it will be more stable with less nose weight. I take it you don't want to fool with a boat tail? Looks like the taper starts around the front of the vertical stab, but behind the leading edge of the wings.

Oh, I love boat tails but man...it is ever so slight. Like maybe just the body tube thickness. Open the jpeg and zoom in on the tail section. It's there but slight. You may have to save the image before you can zoom in on it.

I can see it just by the regular size attachment. I think it gives the fuselage a different look than a straight tube, but I don't think it's worth the effort for 98% of us. A balsa cone would make it awfully tail heavy coupled up with the ramjets, and a paper cone that long would be pretty flimsy. Plenty of centering rings would shore it up, but it would start looking like old V-2's with dented in skins before long!

For the record, the NA-704 was an early design concept by North American in the program which eventually became the Navaho (or Navajo, if you prefer). An SSM, not a SAM.

Love the Navajo. I tried to clone one a few years back. Failed miserably.

I found my pic while looking up documentation on the Bomarc and it listed it as a "long range" Bomarc concept. Those do look like the Bomarc ram jet engines.

Turns out that I have James N Gibson's book on the Navaho project. Haven't read it, like so many books on the shelves. For the NA-704 project, he doesn't have much on it and said that he was unable to get a drawing. Someone who had worked on it did make a sketch of the proposed vehicle and it does agree with the drawing that Gordon uncovered.

Not all shrouds are steep enough to even require rings or at least thick rings or support tubes. This ramjet design suits itself to "Integrated Tube" methodology. Jerry |

Yep, seen it. This is the one I tried to upscale from Tim Wilson. http://forums.rocketshoppe.com/show...ighlight=navaho
