Updating (Admin, feel free to flip this to Free For All if appropriate): Somewhat blustery day of launches Sunday, recovering everything but with severe damage to two. First, the NSG Scout, tumbling down perfectly, broke a fin laterally on impact. Hopefully repairable, I've grown fond of it. Secondly, and attached, the Bandit landed in grass in the middle of a field but somehow had a fin explode. Not sure what happened there, a dime-sized chunk of wood is missing from the top of the fin, but again hope to repair.
And now, to Lionel. Thank you all for the very kind words and thoughts. His follow-up appointment was Saturday. He's not yet in the clear, and still has worms, but we're continuing prescription medicines and he seems to be improving. He has grown from two pounds when we were blessed with him to three Saturday, and his energy level is increasing. Puppy behavior school soon! Will post more pictures as well.

Any evidence of impact on the nose cone? Looks like the kind of damage that happens when the shock cord isn't quite long enough or delay isn't quite right.

Agree with Bill. Looks like a nose cone strike, and the landing did the rest of the damage.

It'll fix up, but be prepared to just replace the fin as opposed to repairing it. Often, that's easier. Might need to fill in the 'dent' in the nose cone, too, assuming there is one.

Hadn't thought of that. I instinctively wrote it off to a hard impact on the ground. The nose shows no damage, but it is sufficiently big and heavy enough to have wonged the thin balsa fin easily. Now, the fin (with the missing piece making it resemble a surfboard after a shark attack) has been removed and the tube sanded down. I'll replace the fin, then mask and repaint the gloss black and dark yellow.

Having received some nice Bandit fins from Semroc, repair work has begun. I have removed the remaining portion of the damaged fin, sanded down the joint area and attached a sanded and primed replacement fin. Painting will be next.

Lionel, by the way, continues his recuperation. He remains on his two prescriptions and has his next follow-up appointment in a couple of weeks. He did start school yesterday, sleeping through the first 45 minutes but then waking in time to master "Sit" and "Watch Me".

Yes, Mr. Racer, I did hear that one, one Halloween night at Tubby's.

As it turns out with the Bandit, Wallyum and Jetlag were both right on the nose, so to speak. On more carefully checking the nose cone, I noticed in fact a very small half-moon dent. Pretty obvious evidence that it was a nose cone strike. The damaged area has been painted and refinished and has now rejoined the active fleet.

Young Master Lionel, the original subject of this thread, has had a miserable time. Multiple bouts with worms, parasitic infections and such have resulted in a months long battle. However, he has come through everything quite well and is now, finally, a bouncing healthy, happy puppy with all of the appropriate energy level. He's even graduated puppy school. Very rewarding.

Updating, please find attached some fairly recent pictures of Lionel. He's about five and a half now and, after spending his first six months back and forth to the vet, is now stronger than I am. He's mildly spoiled (by necessity from his start) and very, very happy.
His turn-ons include his bacon-flavored Nylabone, his tennis ball and car rides wherever I can take him.

Adorable! Looks to be fairly badly mistreated, though.
