It DOES sound like you got to experience the real FSI flavor of yesteryear.
A cato rate approaching 50 percent. If I did not know better I would think somebody pulled the ol' whack-the-motor on the side with a sledge to cause cato's DEE-LIBERATE.

I hear ya, Bill.
I like building them NEW about as much as flying them. I HATE rebuilding them, especially due to a cato. I just must be lucky. I have only had maybe 5 Estes engine catos in 36 years in the hobby, and know AT LEAST two of those were due to deliberate sabotage of my motors. One was a C5-3 that destroyed a pristine pre-damon Mars Lander. Now as far as FSI motors go, my cato rate was at least 30%. For the F100 it was about 40% and the E60 it was over 60%. Quality control was SEVERELY lacking at FSI on the E60, and also on later production F100's
