Default More New Products

The Estes webite has been updated with more new products in the 'Coming Soon' section:

http://www.estesrockets.com/coming-soon/

The PS II E2X kits are listed.

Also, a PSII Launch Controller for use with clustered motors.

Interesting...

Bob,

Thanks for the heads up.

Maybe John can fill us in a little on the new controller. 4 microclips? Multiple power sources? Sounds interesting.

The new launch controller uses "C" cell batteries! Those are the oddballs of the battery world. Relatively few devices use them. (Ever wonder what happened to B cell and A cell batteries? There are charts online which show their size if they existed.)

There is an add-on booster for 29mm motors (E16-0, F15-0). Staged black powder F motors! That is something that hasn't been a Thing since the early 90s.

THANK. YOU. ESTES!

It says multiple power sources but does not say what the other one is. I hope a car battery cable, perhaps sold separately, but it should say so in the blurb to cross-sell. Maybe it is confusingly referring to the cluster wires themselves?

So what's with the hockey puck? Somebody is going to rocket power that thing!

There is a JST connector inside the battery compartment. Remove the C-Batteries and plug in a small 8 to 10 cell NiCad pack or 3-cell Lipo.

I have added one of the new controllers to my buy list. Not much I will buy RTF, ARF or E2X though, I like to build.

I like building but consider E2X to be a superior technology for convenience users which I am more than half the time. Great job John.

A JST connector to battery clips would be a good addition as either a product or a DIY, assuming the continuity electronics do not preclude it.

It is also the perfect launch controller for "Discontinuous Staging"!

I have always thought that LiPo batteries do not tolerate the near short that rocket launching subjects them to.

I am guessing the Trajector uses the Interceptor E cone?

Recent lipoly batteries can source a huge amount of current. I wouldn't want to leave a short across them for minutes, but for the fraction of a second that it takes to fire an igniter or three - no problem. I have a three-channel launch control system I built and power it with an old Kokam 5000 mAh three cell lipoly pack. It fires off a three-way drag race right now and the battery itself doesn't even notice.

Now depending on which JST connector is in the new PSII controller, I might be concerned about that. I am using 30A Anderson Powerpoles as my battery (and other) connectors on my own control system.
