I went a bit rogue on the paint scheme, but I went off the rails on the construction, so WTH. Mine is a mirror of the Taurus in black, white, silver and orange. I had a paint issue with the black, so there's been some extra sanding, but it should be ready to fly in color the next time I get to fly.

Only the Semroc Starlight kit has a decal sheet. I have an extra sheet if you need it.

Good, I thought I'd been imagining it.
Thanks for the offer, but I think I'm just going simple with Astron and old Estes decals on the white sections.
This is it at the moment. I still have to put the silver ring on at the top. I didn't care for the bottom one so I left it off.

Not sure why Semroc added a decal to theirs. I have an original Estes and a Rocketpad clone kit.
No decals in either.

Nice, JJ. I haven't built in years, but may have to fish that one out and give it a go.

Thanks! It’s also a VERY easy model to clone. The few times I’ve cloned it I’ve used basswood instead of balsa because the sharp points are very delicate in balsa.

I just finished cloning this last week with parts from eRockets.com. The weather is too unpredictable to do primer and paint but the build itself is complete. I am still debating on a color scheme - I may go with my HS colors or the high school my kids went to here in Texas.

Question
US Rockets has a 2.7" tube upscale

It appears the design changed. The face card talks about 1/4" BALSA fins.
My kit has 1/4" PLYWOOD fins

The direction calls for using a leader on the shock cord to the bottom of the motor mount. The idea is to have the rocket come down tube first rather than fin first to protect the fin ends from breaking.

1) - Since plywood instead of Balsa, do you think I need to do this? The cord running up the side of the rocket seems kludgy. And what damage could occur to the cardboard tube?

2) - Suggestions to strengthen the fin tips? I'm thinking either a bit of fiberglass or maybe simply covering the fin ends with some sheet styrene.

Thoughts/Suggestions/Opinions/Assessments/Speculation/Proposals????

With plywood or basswood fins I would have it come down fins first, personally. When I feel the need to strengthen fin tips I brush the tips generously with thin CA before the first sanding. That way there’s no change to the appearance after they’re finished.

Kludgy?? Both of my parents were teachers, but I’m gonna have to look that one up.
