OK, tell me I'm not alone in having fixations on certain model rocket parts ...
I have an entire fleet of birds using scales and facsimiles of that nosecone !! http://www.doug79.com/midgets/

That implies the SLV's outboard tubes are BT-50's. Wow, that could make quite a cluster!!

Wow, that almost makes me dizzy -- all those glorious "J" cones.

I just ran to the basement, dug out the box of body tubes, and a 29mm motor tube (thick-walled) is a slightly loose fit in a BT-55. But probably 5 or so wraps of typing paper glued onto the 29mm tube would close the gap easily.

>Although NOT shown or recommended in the instructions the Estes SLV has been flown with a center E9-8 with 5 outer C6-0 motors.

John, that sounds exciting! You can't have too many engines and while I understand why Estes doesn't recommend clustering it, it's nice to hear it's already been done.

Hmm, the SLV is NOT on the Coming Soon page, or indeed anywhere I can find on the Estes site, at the moment.

All that's on the Coming Soon page is some air rockets, and the Skill Level 1 Sequoia.

Goes well on E12-4 also. AltimeterThree aboard reported 767 feet.

Yes, five 50J balsa cones and a 24mm screw-on motor retainer, among other neat features.

I believe it was just by chance I saw it there and posted the page online. I believe it was just a test to see how it looked on the site. I now believe it wasn't supposed to be seen yet, so don't tell anyone you saw it.

Thanks, Bob. It flies nice and straight as well. Gotta love that clever pod and fin alignment jig in the kit.

I plan to fly it at least once more this weekend.

John,

I see Estes is re-releasing the Goblin, at least I see it listed on JonRocket as a "coming soon."

I already have several sizes of Goblins because they are cool like the DRM and are easy to do with the single color decal and the easy to turn PNC/BNC-55AO cone. However, I'm glad to see this classic return. I will probably pick up a kit or two for donation purposes and as an easy replacement if my original size gets damaged or lost, and to help reinforce Estes' efforts to bring back classic kits!
