Default Don't let this happen to you!

For years I've advised "always test paint compatibility before ruining your model".

Well,

I successfully ruined the fin can of this MR8 today. I'd painted the black sections of the fins with a Sharpie Paint Pen. The black of the Sharpie Paint Pen covers beautifully and in one coat, but I'd never shot it with Testors Dullcoat before. Fortunately I didn't ruin the capsule because I'd shot the capsule with black enamel spray.

Always test compatibility, Jeff.

Always test compatibility, Jeff.

Always test compatibility, Jeff.

(stomp, whine, stomp)

Time for a scotch (at 10 a.m.) followed by damage control. Maybe I can get "The Vixen" to sand it for me.

(sniff)

Oh, that is so sad!!! I found out Future floor finish will make red sharpie run too, I thought that was pretty benign stuff.

The booster is salvageable from the 1/8" black band on up, so to save from having to re-decal the booster I'll refinish it from the black band on down. The first step will be to get the 1/16" black and silver trim tapes removed. I'll then sand off the runs and the blisters.

I'll do a COMPATIBILITY TEST of sandable primer over the damaged area.

What a ****ing mess!

"The Vixen" took one look at the damage and said: "Hey genius, 'ya didn't do a compatibility test. Didn't 'ya."

"Well, technically I did not."

"Get me the 400 grit wet/dry, the #00 steel wool, and the Swiss files and I'll prep it for you."

What a trooper!

Default Fixed!!

and.........................................Voila!

After scraping, sanding, steel wooling, primering, and painting, the fin can is corrected.

This time I used white enamel spray, a Testors black enamel paint marker, and then "The Vixen" painted the silver details with MM enamel metallic silver.

Now I'll be able Dullcote it safely.
