Most . 303 British rounds were either 170 or 190gr.
They were made in Aluminum tip, standard FMJ, Spitzer (dum dum), Tracer, AP, Incendiary, and even HE PETN tipped rounds.

Most all of the old military surplus rounds ARE corrosive Berdan primed JUNK.
Buy some modern Remington or Winchester production rounds. With modern powders it is virtually equal to the . 30/06.

I’ll weigh it on my powder scale when I return home from Indianapolis. It’s probably military—since it came from that canvas field belt in that first photo. Each pouch of the belt contains (10) rounds, as (2) stripper clips of (5) rounds each with a square of cardboard between the clips.

Thanks. I bought some new Remington rounds for it soon after I inherited the rifle.

I'm back from Indy now. The powder scale says 175 gr.

Thanks Jeffry for the weight. I guess sometimes one just can’t accurately judge by a photo. It sure *looked* like more than the 200 grain projectile I typically used.

Earl

The only 30 cal I own has a tubular magazine so I have absolutely no need for these spire point bullets. If you would like to have them PM your mailing address to me and I'll send them to you after I finish deconstructing all of the cartridges.

To those that may be concerned:
303 British bullets are NOT U.S. standard 30 cal at .308; they are ~.311-.312 diameter (groove size, lands are .303) and absolutely CANNOT be safely used for typical U.S. 30 cal (30/30, .308, .30.06, and various 300 Magnums) due to the large diameter. One would immediately have at a minimum overpressure signs (blown/pierced primers, extremely hard to cycle the bolt) and could potentially have a blown chamber and/or barrel.
DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT.

The only other cartridge in common use in North America with a .312 diameter bullet/bore is the 7.62x39 Soviet. 175gr is way too heavy for that pip-squeak cartridge.

Thanks for the info! I think it will be better if I just discard them.

Smash/Pinch them in a vise then throw out. That way they are un-usable for anything.
