Along the line of my motor fit question how are the motor retainers configured? Since Estes motors do not have integrated thrust rings and are flush at both ends, what is the maximum tolerance for a nozzle extension or a delay extension? I am thinking about a new line of motors and I have some ideas to flesh out.

I plan to fly my modified Estes Panavia on F15s. It weighs about 11oz., but has no paint yet. It’s been modified into a Sky Hook...

Star Orbiter and Super Big Bertha have you use a tape thrust ring on the motor. Screw on 29mm motor retainer, no motor block. The older PSII kits have motor blocks, but you could always leave it out.

Centurion-F uses a long Estes-style motor clip.

No motor block or hooks . Tape thrust ring then use retainer or z clip to retain motors . Never any problems

I could not find a roll of 1/4” masking tape anywhere locally, but I found a roll on Amazon. Perfect width for making the aft thrust ring on the F15 motors.

I’ve gotten 1/4 inch masking tape from ASP but it’s been kind of frustrating to work with (tears too easily).

I meant I use 1/4” tape when making a thrust ring for F15s getting held in with a screw-on retainer. There is not enough room to capture the threads with wider tape.

If your feeling flush with cash, you could get a roll of Tamiya 6mm tape for your thrust rings.
