, if you have to ask what is "NORMAL" , you probably aren't !

Failure may not be an OPTION, but it is ALWAYS a POSSIBILITY.

Default Landing Reminder: February 18th 3:55pm

Things seem to still be on schedule for the Mars rover Perseverance landing Thursday (tomorrow), February 18 at approximately 3:55 pm, eastern time.

As mentioned in a previous post here two weeks ago, NASA will start their coverage about 2 or so tomorrow (I won't be watching THAT early), and I am sure other news outlets will cover the landing live as it gets closer to actual landing time.

And for those who did the 'boarding pass' thing last year (signed up to send your name on-board the rover), here is the mention of a free doughnut offer sent to me this morning by my lady. Not sure where she found it, but if you are so inclined, check with your local Krispy Kreme doughnut shop for details (not sure: is Krispy Kreme primarily a 'southern' thing, or have they branched out up north more? I remember traveling to the Boston area and a bit more north of there back in the late 90s for some Avid video editing training and being flabergasted at the numbers of doughnut shops I saw up that way!! Wow, the folks up there REALLY like doughnuts I guess....).

Anyway, here's hoping for a successful rover landing Thursday afternoon!!

Latest from NASA:

"NASA’s Mars 2020 Perseverance rover, with the Ingenuity Mars Helicopter attached to its belly, is on target to touch down gently on the Red Planet around 3:55 p.m. EST (12:55 p.m. PST) today, Feb. 18, 2021.

The entry, descent, and landing team started on console at mission control at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory at 8:30 a.m. EST (5:30 a.m. PST) this morning. They are preparing for the spacecraft to start blazing through the Martian atmosphere at around 3:48 p.m. EST (12:48 p.m. PST). At the time of landing, Mars will be 127 million miles (204 million kilometers) from Earth. At this distance, the one-way light time – the amount of time for a signal to get from Perseverance to Earth – is 11 minutes, 22 seconds."

Addendum: And if you have not seen one of the animations of the entry and landing sequence that Perseverance will go through today on its way to the Martian surface, here is a link to a fairly good one that was posted earlier in this thread:

Every time I watch that 'sky crane' portion my gut just tightens up. Genius design, but it seems a very scary way to set a rover down softly on the surface.
