Looking to head out around the beginning of the month. I have 5 new builds I'd like to get in the air.

The tube was pre-wrapped, and the “launch guide” was glued on. It looked like it was affixed with hot glue, so I used a heat gun to remove it. It thought it might be too much trouble to mask for painting. The shock cord went thru tube and laid in a groove on the underside of the guide. I decided to use a regular launch lug on stand-off to cover the holes.
One thing that impressed me was how well the “legs” fit — a good, snug fit. I do not plan to glue them in, so they can be removed in case of damage.

Note on the stock shock cord. I removed mine as it was replaced with Kevlar and elastic. I was surprised how easily the shock cord pulled out. When I removed it, it didn't break but rather pulled out of the hole in the side of the body. The force I used was much less than what it would see under ejection or parachute deployment. I have no doubt mine would have failed if flown with the stock setup.

At the very least you should pull the stock shock cord and replace it with the tri-fold mount if you are not doing the motor tube. It's would be easy to do a tri-fold mount from the bottom of the tube before attaching the fin can so it's down and out of the way.

I did something similar with my MAV. Didn't like the white fin can and painted it gray but left out a white section for the decals. Also painted parts of the fin. The engine nozzle was one of my first attempts at 3D design and printing. It was later painted either silver or titanium... I wish someone with better 3D design skills clone the nose cone....

I have flown my MAV once with a Quest D16-4 Q-Jet motor.

That was one fast liftoff!

Model was recovered fine with no damage.

What kind of altitude do you think you hit? I don’t have a C6-3 on hand for a launch tomorrow but I do have a couple QJ D16-4s...

I would guess 300-400 feet.

That's a bit of an underestimate. It's a little low, even, for for C12-4s: https://flightsketch.com/flights/666/

Here's a D16-4 flight: https://flightsketch.com/flights/804/
