This one is a retro design based on an Estes V2. It's actually my wife's rocket as she created the fin profile. Yet another V2 that never actually got built as a V2. Nice flight on a D12. On the way back down the shockcord snapped, but not before the chute absorbed most of the speed.
The booster tumbled in with no damage. Both halves recovered.

The maiden flight of my new Der Drei Maxxx was a tragedy. I loaded it with a fresh pack of C5-3's and sent it on it's way. Boost was awesome as it roared into the sky. It kept climbing until we lost sight of it completely. Despite scanning the sky for a very long time, we never saw it again. I heard the chute pop from the triple ejection charge, but it was well above the cloud canopy so I don't know where it drifted off to. It was fitted with a brand new Thin-Mil lime green chute that is also lost. My sacrifice to appease the rocket gods.
This is where I pulled the plug on the rest of the afternoon's flight schedule.
It was clear that the wind was now too strong to support anymore high altitude attempts.
Too bad 'cause I really wanted to fly the big Alpha on an F24 Black Max smokey.

Lesson learned: No more short delays on lightweight cluster models. I should have used C6-7's today. I have one more nosecone left, so I'll be building another one this winter.

Glad someone got to fly this weekend. I had a bunch of Semroc birds prepped and ready, but they had a Little League tournament set up at B6-4 Field. It was swamped all weekend. Very little social distancing. Bummed about the big Max cluster, but the shot of the Goblin coming in on the big streamer was impressive. Club launch this weekend, so I'm trying to figure out what I'm taking north with me.

The Der Drei Maxxx is (was) super cool. Total bummer that you lost that on it's maiden flight with a new chute but glad you have the parts to build another. From the blur in that picture looks like the cluster of C5-3's really got it moving off the rod. I remember you posted about it in the COVID-19 Quarantine Projects thread and you did a great job on that one.
I like the first group photo that you posted with the *Eriks* decal on the LOC Viper that looks like an Estes decal. Thanks for positing the flight report.

Great looking fleet!

Thanks guys. Glad you all enjoyed the show.
The Dart, Viper, and Alpha didn't fly. After the Max I wasn't going to press my luck.
It's to be good weather for the upcoming holiday weekend so I may try then.
I didn't even notice my Estes inspired decal was facing the camera.
It's just subtle enough to make everyone look twice.

Sorry about the loss of your Max! At least it wasn't one of your oldies. Those would be harder to lose.
Thanks for posting the pics - all good shots!

That's a good point, Steve.
I was thinking about that today and how it could have been much worse. While it's unfortunate to lose any model, I'd rather give up a shiny new one that's easily replaced than one from my past that has a history.
