Default Centuri 1/45 LJII

Currently there is a NM Centuri 1/45 LJII on ebay for Buy It Now of $199.
Bargain for someone that wants an original.

Yeah, I know this guy and have bought from him before. He has offered this kit before, but so far it has not sold. The re-issue of this kit by Estes nearly 5 years ago now has taken the price premium largely away from this classic kit. Six years ago a Centuri Little Joe kit at this price would have lasted about 30 seconds on eBay.

That said, and as nice as the Estes re-issue was, it still was not quite the same as the Centuri original. This is one of my most favorite Centuri kits.

I like the chrome-mylar wrapped, pre-finished main tube of the Centuri better than the Estes re-issue.
Also, it makes no sense to me that the Estes kit ONLY recommends the E30-4 engine.
It will surely fly on the Estes D12-3, RMS 24 E28-4 and RMS24 F24-4.

The original flew just fine on 3 B4-2's or B6-4's. The D12-3 might be a little short on the delay. Hard to tell since it's a bit draggy.

The Estes version had one add a decent amount of clay inside the LES motor tube AND in the apex of the Apollo capsule. The Centuri version had none and would more than likely be lighter (I have not compared Catalog weights of each). Accordingly, maybe a D12-3 might work out well in the Estes version.

How well matched was the delay time vs apogee on the Centuri version on the three B6-4s?

I put my kit up a few months ago - it had a few parts missing but nothing important - with a $199 starting bid. No bids, relisted for $189, no bids. Relisted for $179. no bids. Relisted at $169 - two guys got it a bidding war and it sold for $250

Seems like if 3xB4-2 or 3xB6-4 was ok in the Centuri one, the D12-3 with about the same impulse and delay right in between would be ok. Weights are 5.5 vs. 8.3oz on the new one.
If a D12-3 can fly a 4" diameter 10oz Saturn V, it can fly an 8.4oz LJII.

+1 to this. I had an original I bought with my grass cutting money
It *is* my personal favorite Centuri kit.

... and a +1 to this. The wraps on this one appear to be in great shape. I can certainly see the value in having a sealed kit in a collection but for myself this would be the one to buy where I can actually see the condition of the wraps.

If I were looking to obtain one this would be the one to go for although those wraps may not last ten minutes in our Louisiana humidity. I’d probably no sooner remove it from the box and that nice pristine wrapped tube would bubble up like bologna in a frying pan ...

This one is a "builder" to me.
I already got a discounted private offer, but have other items in mind.
I have a custom- made full sized Williams Stargate arcade machine coming from a buddy in the arcade business. Spending a bit of $$$ on that new Christmas toy. It has a Multi-Williams board in it and plays Defender, Stargate, Robotron, Sinistar, Joust, Joust II, and Moon Patrol.

Flies FINE on D12-3.

I converted my old Centuri kit to 24mm power and flew it routinely on D12-3.

Also have flown the Estes one on D12-3.
