For the past few years, I have only seen Squadron White or Grey putty, no Green.
Not sure why, but if they were using Zinc Chromate for the tint, that is probably why.
Most manufacturers are now avoiding Chromium salts for everything due to toxicity.
We had to take all hexavalent Chromium out of all automotive electronics over a decade ago.
Lead and Pb/Sn solder was allowed longer, but has been gone over 5 years now.

Thankfully Tetraethyl Lead has not been forced out of Aviation Gasoline or Racing/Off Road Gasoline. There are several Unleaded compounds that raise Octane numbers, but nothing beats good old Tetraethyl Lead.

Yes, there is such a thing as NORMAL
, if you have to ask what is "NORMAL" , you probably aren't !

Failure may not be an OPTION, but it is ALWAYS a POSSIBILITY.
ALL systems are GO for MAYHEM, CHAOS, and HAVOC !

I like Bondo Glazing and Spot Putty the best. Normally $6-7 or so at Walmart. Today, it is $3.17 on walmart.com. No delivery, pickup at store. They run deals like this all the time. I’ve bought Rustoleum Filler-Primer for $3.13 a can using walmart.com, and picked it up at the store. No limit either, I bought 6 cans the last time.

I'll check that out! ONE can will probably last me the rest of my life.

Decal alert!

If any of you have ordered the parts from erockets to scratch build the Nike Tomahawk and ordered the decal sheet with it, check your decal sheet. The sheet I got didn't print completely and one of the green rectangles is missing. I've already sent a request to Randy for a replacement sheet.

More Nike Tomahawk drama tomorrow!

Good night. TBC

It's 2 degrees F outside. (Or approx -17 C for nearly all of the rest of the world.)

I briefly considered going outside and "frolicking" in the snow and ice but after pondering it for almost 3 seconds I decided not to. Instead, I'll continue work on the Nike while "The Vixen" rubs me feet and feeds me grapes and Triscuits.

The white putty cured overnight and is sandable. Now I'm VERY glad the armature of the Nike fins are hard basswood! With the Corian board covered with 220 grit laid across my Herculean thighs I sand the root edges of each fin aggressively--and in one direction only so as to not cause a "bow". I then sand the slight concavity out of the filled outer edges. I then gently sand the leading and trailing edges on t he board and then gently lap by hand with 400 grit the surfaces of the fins.

I now have (4) marginally acceptable built up Nike fins!

Well, I've just had an epiphany: I never filled the spirals of the booster's BT.

I thought about not doing it, but they're very deep and this is a scale model. So I've now filled the spirals with diluted wood filler.

That wood filler didn't take long to dry at all.

The filled spirals are now sanded with 220 and the entire BT buffed with #00 steel wool. Tube is as smooth as glass. I've redrawn the fin and LL lines on the tube.

NOW I get to assemble the model!

Using Titebond red label I attach the nike fins and the launch lugs with their stand-offs to the booster tube. Since these are built up, 3D fins I can't use my usual bracing procedure for alignment, so after I square them up I measure the tip to tip spread (in this case it's 4 5/16".)

I use a carefully calibrated TLAR eyeball to mount fins. Scale, sport, current, or vintage.
NEVER a jig, square, bracket, or any of that Nonsense.

Make "Good Enough, Thaty'll Doo" your motto too !
If I was competing in a scale contest, but not ever for anything less.

I've now inserted and epoxied the engine mount into place. Oddly, in step 20 of the instructions it doesn't state how FAR to insert the engine mount, so I just took the liberty of inserting it until even the engine hook was within the BT.
