Hard to believe ANYONE at Cricut would think the plan was wise, if they truly understood, and appreciated, their customers. I don’t think its over. Silhouette could easily use this fiasco to seed uncertainty and doubt in the marketplace by stepping up their game to make themselves the “safe choice”.

Well, that certainly changed my mind. I have $50-60 in Amazon gift cards and was figuring on putting them toward either a dash cam or a Cricut. Anyone have a suggestion on a dash cam model? I think my Grandpa called Cricuts actions "cutting off your nose to spite your face". And yeah, Photobucket came to mind.

I have a Cricut Maker - as I live in an apartment, a laser cutter is not very viable, so I purchased the Maker to cut fins/vinyl/cardstock. It does a pretty good job - not much of a learning curve and the only gotcha (which would be true for any device) is to watch the scaling of the pattern. I have ended up with fins that were too small once or twice
I think the Maker is the best non-laser option out there for cutting balsa/basswood sheets. I would recommend it, especially to those who have a bad eye like me. Didn't pay too much attention to the recent fracas - I kinda figured pressure from the customer base would correct the enormous stupidity on the part of the company, and it did. I don't get too upset with stupidity - it has become the norm lately

Well, now they've reversed completely: https://www.theverge.com/2021/3/18/...cription-needed
Note to decision makers: you're supposed to try to read the room *before* you make an insane policy decision. Better late than never. |

I am sure Coca-Cola is relieved to know that their insane decision to kill off their flagship product years ago and replace it with “New Coke” has been eclipsed by the unbelievably bone-headed policy change proposed by Cricut.

They obviously did not "test market" this imbecilic 'subscription' plan.

Yeah, I think the Cricut folks have found out now just how stupid their ‘hold ‘em over a barrel’ idea was. Kinda like checking into a hotel and then, after getting settled into your room, receiving a call from the front desk saying “Your oxygen through midnight of your first day is included in your room charge. However, should you choose to breath oxygen for the balance of your stay, there will be an additional “human habitability charge” of $59.95 added to your daily bill.” Stupid; plain stupid. And I am so glad their customer base let them know that. Earl

Stuff like this is why I never got a Cricut. Got a Silhouette Cameo instead
Years ago there was some great aftermarket software for the early Cricut that freed you from the cartridge art and Cricut download art. Cricut sued after a while and blocked new users from being able to get and use it. I With a software upgrade on the Cameo, you can use .dxf files and .svg files directly I have both a Cameo 3 and a Cameo 4. The 4 has more cutting force that the Cricut Maker and can handle 1\16 and 3\32 balsa.

Dave,
Cricut design files are cloud-based. Anybody with a Cricut should be able to access the my Enerjet decal files. I have not tried to find anyone else’s files so I am not quite sure how it is done. But I will see if I can create a link. There is no provision for storing them locally, which I find annoying. Here is a picture of my Enerjet and Goblin decals. I learned how to edit them to change layout. For example, on the Goblin decals, I added more goblins, bats, numbers (since printing these). Ialso changed the Enerjet file to be two color, so the machine will cut only one color, then you change vinyl and cut the other color.
