When I was in school in Boulder, Big Head Todd and the Monsters were still a local band. Later they hit it fairly big. The other band I recall had the wonderful name Free Beer - a name guaranteed to lure in the unsuspecting when posted outside a bar!

There was this Detroit / Los Angeles Band Called the Knack. the Knack played around Detroit
for a few years ( late 70's ) then they got a record deal and went to LA. This was great for them as their first Single went #1 all most world wide : MY SHARONA but this only lasted a few years.

When I was in college in Southern California, a local band was a big hit at local venues.
