Default My year long projects

Sorry, I know I have been somewhat absent from this forum for most of this past year.

I have been busy. Over the years I have had a bunch of other hobbies.

HO model trains ,
Stick and tissue rubber powered planes as well as some R/C electric and CO2 power,
In the past year I have built 2 R/C boats,
Added some features to my existing full size boats,
And yes, a few rockets.
Gardening, not to mention all the regular duties of a home owner.

This one of my latest projects.

A U.S. Navy Tartar Mark III.

This is designed fo gap staging. I’ve never done gapp staging but this should work.

The fist pic shows the booster motor tube not glued on yet.

The second pic is the booster with the motor mount installed but not glued in yet.

The last pic shows the top of the booster motor tube with the drilled out transition.

The booster is from a Terrier.

Good to read your post Gordy!

I can sympathize: when you’re a homeowner, the only thing that works is YOU.

At my age it’s getting harder and harder.

Ok, more rockets.

Terrier Sandhawk on the right, not the Estes one but much much smaller with a 13mm body tube

The upper stage is an ASP kit and the Terrier booster is scratch. According to Mr. Alway the Sandhawk is 13 inches in diameter and the Terrier booster is 24 inches.

So, 1 mm to the inch…dang! that was easy!

The one on the left is a Nike Tomahawk. The Tomahawk is another 13 mm ASP kit with a BT-55 booster. I may have exadurated the booster fins but it will fly straight.

More rockets coming. Stay tuned.

I tried to hire a couple of high school kids but neither showed up or even called back.

I’m getting too old for this $**1!

Oh well, back to rockets.

Quite a while back my local hobby shop owner sold me his remaining stock of rocket stuff so he could go back to his other work of restoring old Lionel Trains.

Att a flea market he picked up a box of old trains and found some rocket stuff in the box. He had no use for them and gave them to me.

The coolest was a boxed Mars Lander I gave to Carl Mclawtorn to help him with his kits.

But…way down in the bottom of the box was three old Centuri kits an Honest John, an Excalibur and a Bandito.

The Excalibur and Bandito are proving to be a bit more of a challenge and are still in the middle of the “fill, sand, fill sand…etc part but the Honest John only had one fin but that was east to fix.

It was painted flat black and sanding made me look like I was working with coal dust!

But I got it painted and I have decal and the spin motors to do yet.

There are four or five more in the que. Upscale Colonial Viper, a Sarah Conner and a big oil’ Estes Terrier Sandhawk to name a few.

Gordy,

Wonderful to see you building such great stuff!

And, hey, I know someone who launches a lot of gap-staged models so I'm happy to give yours the once-over.

Now the only important question is "when are we going to fly these?"

Steve

How about…ASAP?

I should be able to finish the Centuri models in a few daws.

That's a LONG gap to stage that first rocket.

More finished.

These are all Centuri rescue rockets.

A Bandito and Excalibur to go along with the Honest John also a Centuri model.

Default Great to hear from you again

And you shouldn't apologize for any of the other pursuits.

Myself, I find my life strangely busy with three grandchildren. Kinda looking forward to when they are a little older, and better able to watch a rocket launch.
