Default Estes Echo Build

Not much excitement here, just another simple older Estes kit. The Echo rocket would reminds me of Mickey Mouse with the fin shape. I started this build yesterday, 4 coats of Sig sealer followed by simple construction. Today I shot purple Krylon paint and hopefully tomorrow apply the decals. These LPR kits do not require much......White glue, Balsa Sealer and paint. I tried to get close up pictures of the fins. I am always impressed with the dope based sealers.

Nice job, the fins look smooth as silk.

Do you sand between each coat?

Yes sir, brush it on and let it dry for 20-30, sand and repeat 3-4 times until smooth as plastic. I normally have the balsa sealed and ready to build in less than 2 hours.

Do put pins (T-pins or Push Pins) in the root edge of the fin and hold those as you brush the sealer on?

I do, I either use pins or thin music wire. Got that idea from an old Estes or Centuri newsletter.

Nice! Fins look great. I flew my Echo last year during my lone gunman launches at B6-4 Field when the world was in limbo. I've only flown it on A8-3s so far. I really need to take it to the corn to see what a C6-5 flight looks like.

He has a whole catalog's worth of catalog quality rockets. Search for his build threads and see if you can pick out what era (or even what year) he got into rocketry.

Default Sigs

Sigs is a phominal builder!
You can spend 8 hours a day for more than a year reading and watching his builds.
