I wonder what Bill Simon thinks of the B.O.S.S. or if he was involved in bringing it to production.

Bill Simon sent his original model to Estes so I could engineer the kit.

Also, the artwork for the Star Orbiter has the wrong fins....it looks like a Vapor instead.

The mix up with the fins in the latest catalog is a mystery. NOTHING has changed with the Star Orbiter kit.

Hope the upcoming Semroc one is as big as the defunct Hawks Hobby super one at BT-60 AND BT-55.

My last visit to eRockets introduced me to a 29mm upscale of the OT. Will be quite impressive once they kit it.

Thanks, John. I was hoping Bill Simon had a hand in your creating a production model from his design. Good to hear he did.

And I figured the Star Orbiter thing was a visual “typo”.

A 29mm OT will be even better than the old Hawks Hobby Super OT.
I'd pay $125 for one easy.

What is new:

Luna Bug (was a Hobby Lobby Exclusive up until now).
Blue Origin New Shepherd (RTF and Builders)
B.O.S.S.
Super Orbital Transport
Vesta (for the kit list, I put first available in 2021)

Discontinued
803 Bandito
2437 Savage
2442 Mini Fat Boy
2603 Sundancer
7239 Sky Warrior
7261 Air Walker
7264 Astron Explorer
7275 Sterling Silver

Note that some of the kit numbers in the Index do not agree with what is in the Catalog Description (Gnome, Super Orbital Transport, Vesta Instruder for example). I go by the Catalog Description.

Too bad about the Sterling Silver....that's a nice flying two-stager. It is still available in it's Epic II guise at Hobby Lobby, though, I think.

Funny about the Air Walker as it's a fairly recent bring-back.

Easily upscaled and assembled. Sanding, that’s the tough part! (Easier for you , since you profess to love sanding!) 😀
I think my BT-60 scratch-built OT took me a couple months to sand, paint, and decal. And the hand cutting of all the basswood and balsa pieces — that was stretched out over a few weeks as I recall.

I should be receiving my catalog soon, I ordered it when I got the email from Estes. Today is the first time I’ve looked at the download. A couple observations.

1. Like BEC, I noticed the Star Orbiter’s “new fins”. Makes sense, my version of it, the “Rat Biter”, got the rounded part of the fins eliminated.

2. The Luna Bug is now offered direct from Estes? I bought 4, built 1, and will do the rest with grandkids. Is there ANYONE out there that didn’t buy them?

3. The BOSS is a surprise. Anyone ever hear about this old Bill Simon design. I’d like to know what other Simon designs exist. His designs are some of my favorites.

4. I think this catalog is encouraging. It’s great that we keep seeing multiple new offerings each year. I want them all, with the exception of the New Shepard Builder’s Kit…

Looking through the new catalog is almost as much fun as it was back in the day, though it'll be better once I receive the paper copy. I see a B.O.S.S. and S.O.T. in my future. I'll wait for my LHS to get them, it's not like I'm running out of kits to build.

Prices are up across the board - The Majestic is now $53.99, the I have one sitting here in a box has a price tag of $12.49 (Hobby Lobby closeout). I think I'll build it today, and put it up tomorrow with a booster, E16-0 to E16-6 ($6.24 per 2-pack during the closeout!). At 1500', it might clear up some storage space.
