Well, I bought two, one to build and one to hold on to (at least for awhile). The prices these have gone for on eBay are crazy.

The build is underway.

That balsa nose cone, at least in the kit I opened, is very light, which also means very soft. I haven’t done the coat-the-outside-with-thin-CA bit for some time, but I just might on this one, after all the little dents are finally satisfactorily filled. I also may use a screw eye with bigger threads than the dainty one in the bag just to improve the chances they stay together.

Otherwise, pretty straightforward. There is a motor block in the motor mount assembly. The fins are laser-cut from some nice firm stock, and the two parts of each fit together nicely. Fins are going on now.

So is this 65th anniversary rocket cool, or is it just another dumb rocket?

Cheers,

I like building 1.67x upscales, so that BT-50 goes to BT-60.

It'll be cool when someone makes it a two stage. Until then, I think the gapped fins are kinda dumb.

It's growing on me, actually. Mine currently has a blue nose cone and the base white on the rest. It will get its black fin today and hopefully, with some creative masking and careful handling, its blue fins tomorrow. Then I can decal it Friday and fly at at Saturday's club launch.

It does look like it should be two stages. It looks kind of like an upscale of the mini-motored Checkmate (which I love and fly a lot). Hmmmmmmmm

But then, as GH will surely point out at some point, I have an affection for several of what he would call boooooooorrrring rockets (Alpha, Nova Payloader).

Interesting. It looks like they cut them as single pieces. The good news is, no joint. The bad news is, grain running in one section in a not-as-strong direction...if that's what eRockets did.

Mine is painted and I hope to get the decals on it today/tonight. If so, and it's not too breezy, it will fly tomorrow at the club launch I'm running. Right now between the forecast breeze and the known not-too-forgiving landing surface, I might not fly it. But the wind forecast is improving.

I'll add a picture here tonight if I get it ready.

Here is a pic. Will fly tomorrow hopefully.

Darn Rusto 2X black has been on there since Wednesday and it is still not fully dry. Also the roll pattern decal gave me fits....it is a little too wide and also a bit stretchy. So don't look too closely.
