Gus,

you are correct. That seems to be the case.

BTW, I'm ahead of you. I will even go a step further and add 2 pins to the wings and drill holes in the pods. That should strengthen the joint even more.

I finally got enough courage to continue the build. As predicted I drilled to holes in the wings and the pods. I then glued the toothpicks to the wings.

I then glued the pods to the wings using epoxy 2 compound glue.

Oh, and this time I didn't drop the Interceptor while taking the pictures

Beautiful job, Leo.

By the way, is the sky always that pretty where you live? Every one of your pictures has the most beautiful clouds.

In my own experience CA works the best to glue Plastic parts to other materials like Balsa and paper. It also makes a strong small fillet just use Insta-set to dry the CA. Once I sand the joint lightly, I smooth on a small fillet of epoxy and smooth it out for looks & Straight.
I built my clone about two years ago.

Everyone should use the glue they prefer, put It’s been my experience with High Power Rockets that Epoxy dose not work will with none pours materials like Plastic and Fiberglas or G-10 fins, The only way to get a decent bond is to rough up the surface to be glued.

Hey Arley, if it works the "pest" why are you using it?

HAHAHA, ok ok .... I think you meant "best"

I completely agree about epoxy and smooth surfaces. It won't hold very well.

However in the case of the pods CA isn't the best to us either. They will snap off aswell.
The dowel solution for a mechanical bond is the probably the only way to go with Mikes pods.

Thanks for the offer David. I don't have any but I do have a set of decals from Phred. I'll be using those.

I will try to get new ones directly from Estes for my Interceptors that I picked up in March. Lets see if they ship overseas

2 coats off sanding sealer are on. Now comes what I hate the most, sanding

Oh boy, time to pop up this thread after so many years

This is the final stage and will bring this rocket project to an end.

A couple of weeks ago I had to fix one of the pods. It was "L" shaped when I got it from Moldin' Oldies. What I had done back in 2008 was to use a hair dyer to soften the plastic.
That worked great but after several weeks the pod would return to it's original shape. I did this several times but to no avail.

I then decided to cut the pod in half and sand it so it would go on straight. I epoxied a small coupler in one end and then glued it to the other pod half.

Then I gave the whole rocket the paint workout by first priming it, sanding, priming, sanding ....
After that was completed it got a coat of flat white and then a coat of glossy white.

Today I applied the decals. It took me a whopping 8 1/2 hours!

Here are some detailed pictures taken this evening:

At some point the whole rocket will get a complete coat of clear flat paint.

Thanks for reading my build thread.
