Yeah, that is most likely what they have on hand. Besides, there was no pink for her Goblin. Which was why we tried (the one and only time) the new stuff.

They do actually still sell this as I have picked it up at one of the MSC locations near my office.

I have never heard of any of those places. Certainly none of them are anywhere near my local area. (The closest is almost 100 miles away. The nearest MSC to me is in Rochester, NY, about 250 miles away. And sorry, but Montgomery, AL, Atlanta, GA, Jacksonville, FL, Aurora, IL, Cleveland, OH, Charleston, WV and Rochester, MN are not within driving distance to me. All of those came up when I did a search for distributors in New York.) It has been quite awhile since I have seen any old formula Krylon at any of my local hardware stores, at any of my local auto parts stores, at Walmart or at Lowe's. (I don't know if Home Depot carries it because there are none in my area.) That's why I concluded that it was no longer being made. There were also a few threads last year on this forum and elsewhere that were bemoaning the news that Krylon had discontinued the old lacqer-based formula. Silly me; I don't know how that would have given me the notion that it was not available anymore. But obviously I was wrong about all of that. Now I will just have to plan an overnight or weekend trip to some part of the state where one of these stores are located so that I can buy some paint.

I have never seen Testor's Lacquer and so I didn't know that it existed. The only Testor's paints that I have ever seen in hobby stores or elsewhere were the enamel in spray cans and bottles and the Model Master paints in bottles. Are Model Master paints enamels or acrylics?

I have not had any issues with wrinkling when I have used new Krylon.

Has anyone had any experience with Valspar paints? Not the kind sold at Lowe's, but the kind sold at Michael's. I bought a can late last year because it was the only brand that had the color I wanted, but I have not used it yet, obviously.

Yes.

Testors/Model Masters has both acrylic (acryl) and enamel paints in bottles, and lacquer and enamel paints in rattle cans.

Check out all the options on their website. BTW, their color selection chart doesn't do justice to some of their more brilliant colors. DaveR and Barone can attest to the rich color of my Italian Red upscale Red Max as compared to the wimpy little washed out looking blob on the website.

A question, please.

I went to Lowe's this morning and examined the rattle can paints. The available brands were Valspar and Rustoleum in a wide range of colors. I even bought a can of Valspar white primer.

My question is that although we've been talking about "lacquer" in these brands, both are labeled "Premium Enamel". Am I not looking at the right stuff or are we using "lacquer" and "enamel" interchangeably?

To me, a lacquer-based paint is not the same as an enamel paint. They act differently; lacquer sprays thin and hardens smooth quickly while spray enamel requires sufficient volume for it to flow to smoothness and hardens slowly.

What am I missing here?

Yeah, I don't know where they are shopping but I haven't seen lacquer in a store for years. And in a spray can at that. When we were in school a friends Dad used lacquer to paint cars so he would use their setup to spray his rockets. But that was with a big spray booth setup...

Rustoleum markets several different lines of paint. One of them is a lacquer paint, and it says it in big letters on the can. They only have three colors of lacquer available. As far as I know, the rest of the Rustoleum lines are enamel.

I'm not using the terms interchangeably, as the paints are completely different, with different solvents, drying times, etc.

I'm not doubting they make it. It's just not common anywhere I've ever been. So, I just naturally get enamel since it is more common.

It's a new line for Testors .....

http://www.testors.com/category/137169/Lacquer_Paints

I saw plenty on hand at the Hobby Lobby in Baton Rouge this morning. Not cheap at $4.99 a can but a pretty good selection of colors. Even at 40% off using a coupon in those small cans it's pricey.

It says you don't need a prime coat or a clear coat so I guess you could save a little $$$ there. I didn't see any large cans and so far Hobby Lobby is the only place I've seen it. Hobby shops around here are non existent. All I have is Hobby Lobby and Lowe's in Hammond and two more Hobby Lobby stores in Baton Rouge about 30 minutes to the west of Hammond, LA.

Lacquers aren't new to Testors. The particular Testors line you found does look to be new, but the Testors Model Master lacquers have been around for a long time.

By "new line" I was referring to the new line of one coat lacquer paint by Testors that I referenced in the link, not the auto paints. I should have been more specific as I didn't really mean lacquer paint was new to Testors.

The ones I saw at Hobby Lobby looked like this .....
