Yep. I guess I deleted it and didn't retype it after fixing a different screw up.

I added lead shot to mine to ballast the (4) 18 mm motors as well as (4) A10 for effect. I took the CG that George reccomended in his drwaing and used that as a reference.

Using 30 minute epoxy had no effect on the exterior detailing of the capsule

Loaded with 4 C6-5s and a 30" nylon chute (no wadding, I have a baffle at the forward end of the stuffer tube) the CG is 11 1/4" from the bottom.

Pulling this golden nugget out of the vault I am finally getting around to completing my SEMROC Saturn 1B that I started in 2007 Over the last 50 years or so, I've built several of the original Estes Apollo capsules. Now in my mid-60's I'm not going to go through that again. So I bought the Apogee capsule kit, and just as jpaw33 asked years ago, any suggestions on the parachute attachment point? From what I've gathered on this thread, adding nose weight to this particular version of the 1B isn't needed. My original thought was to cut out a disc of either balsa or basswood and insert it into the base of the Apollo capsule, but I'm leery of gluing wood to plastic.

That's exactly how I always do it: I cut a disk out of 1/8" plywood. I bevel the plywood edge somewhat to add more surface area to the attachment. Rough up the inside of the capsule with 220 grit sandpaper and use 30 minute epoxy. It won't come off.

I mixed 1oz of #12 lead shot with 15min epoxy and poured into mine, with a screw-eye centered in the mix.
15min epoxy does not heat up much either. It's 15min WORKING time, not cure time.
Just don't use 5min epoxy. That stuff gets HOT.

I extended the shoulder about 1.5", using some pieces of body tube, added weight to the aft end, and attached a bit of kevlar near the balance point, so it would fall mostly flat with a slight tower-up angle.
